Medical Doctor Services for Residential Mental Health and Autoimmune Treatment

Highlands in Bloom is a licensed residential treatment center in Agoura Hills, California. Our clinical program is developed and overseen by Clinical Program Director Stacy McNeal, PhD, LMFT and Medical Director and Psychiatrist Dr. Todd Hill. Highlands in Bloom provides medical doctor oversight as an integrated component of the residential treatment program, ensuring that each client’s physical health is monitored and addressed as part of their individualized care plan. The majority of client interactions with the medical doctor take place in person, with virtual sessions available in select circumstances.

The Role of the Medical Doctor at Highlands in Bloom

The medical doctor at Highlands in Bloom is available throughout the residential stay, coming in for face-to-face appointments with clients on a regular basis and working in direct coordination with Clinical Program Director Stacy McNeal, PhD, LMFT, and the full multidisciplinary clinical team. While the medical doctor is not physically present on-site at all times, their involvement in each client’s care is consistent, accessible, and integrated into the overall treatment plan. Medical oversight at Highlands in Bloom ensures that the physical health dimensions of each client’s presentation are addressed alongside the clinical therapeutic work happening simultaneously.

Medical Assessment and Treatment Planning

Each client undergoes a comprehensive medical assessment at intake that informs their individualized treatment plan. The medical assessment evaluates current physical health status, medication history, relevant laboratory findings, chronic illness presentations, and the relationship between physical and psychological health. For clients managing autoimmune conditions including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and IBD, the medical assessment specifically evaluates the current state of the autoimmune presentation and its clinical relationship to the mental health concerns being addressed in the residential program.

Medical Oversight for Complex Presentations

Many clients at Highlands in Bloom present with medically complex pictures that include autoimmune disease, hormonal dysregulation, chronic pain, sleep disorders, nutritional deficiencies, and the physiological effects of long-term chronic stress and burnout. Medical doctor involvement ensures that these physical dimensions of the presentation are acknowledged, documented in the EMR, and integrated into the treatment plan rather than left unaddressed while the focus of care is placed solely on psychological symptoms. For high-functioning clients who have been managing complex health presentations while maintaining professional and personal responsibilities, having accessible and responsive medical oversight is often a meaningful and welcome component of the residential experience.

Coordination with Psychiatric and Clinical Care

Medical care at Highlands in Bloom is delivered as a unified clinical function. Dr. Todd Hill provides both medical and psychiatric oversight, ensuring that medication management, physiological health, and psychological treatment are consistently aligned within each client’s individualized treatment plan. Shared documentation in the electronic medical record and direct clinical communication ensure that medical findings are integrated into the client’s evolving care throughout the residential stay.
