Who We Are

The Big Picture

Highlands in Bloom is not a place you go to be fixed. It is a place you come to when you are finally ready to stop managing your pain and start understanding it.

We are a licensed residential mental health treatment center located on a residential property in Old Agoura Hills, California built specifically for high-functioning adults: executives, professionals, caregivers, and leaders who have spent years pouring from an empty cup and are now paying the price in their bodies, their minds, and their relationships.

We do not sell healing. We do not rescue or cure. What we do with clinical rigor, deep personalization, and genuine care is teach you how to understand your body’s signals, regulate your nervous system, and build a sustainable foundation for lifelong recovery. The work you do here belongs to you when you leave.

Built From Lived Experience

Highlands in Bloom exists because our founder needed it and it didn’t exist yet.

Seven and a half years ago, she was exactly the person most people never worry about. The fixer. The connector. The one who made order out of chaos before anyone else noticed there was a mess. She led, she delivered, she held space for everyone who relied on her. What no one could see was that she was continuously giving from a place of complete depletion.

Then her body stopped cooperating. A diagnosis of an autoimmune disorder a direct consequence of years of chronic stress and self-abandonment forced her into a reckoning she hadn’t chosen and couldn’t solve her way out of. What she learned through her own healing journey became the clinical and philosophical foundation of everything Highlands in Bloom does: that the body keeps score, that the mind and immune system are not separate systems, and that recovery requires more than a prescription and a weekly therapy appointment.

She built the facility she wished had existed when she needed it most.

Our multidisciplinary clinical team includes licensed therapists, a clinical director, psychiatric support, and specialists in somatic therapy, trauma-focused care, nutrition, and movement. Every clinical decision from intake assessment to discharge planning is made collaboratively, with the whole person in view.

Who Comes to Highlands in Bloom

Our clients are not in crisis in the traditional sense. They are high-functioning adults executives, attorneys, physicians, entrepreneurs, and caregivers who have maintained a composed, capable exterior while quietly falling apart beneath the surface.

Many arrive carrying a combination of mental health symptoms and stress-related physical conditions: anxiety and depression alongside autoimmune flares, burnout alongside hormonal dysregulation, unresolved trauma alongside chronic inflammation. They have often tried outpatient therapy. Some have tried medication. What they haven’t had is the time, the space, and the structured clinical support to do the deeper work away from the environments and demands that are keeping them stuck.

If you recognize yourself in any of this if you are the person everyone else leans on, the one who holds it all together while barely holding yourself you are exactly who we built this for.

A Whole-Person Approach to Recovery

Healing at Highlands in Bloom happens at the intersection of the mind, the body, and the nervous system because that is where the work actually lives.

Our clinical programming integrates evidence-based psychotherapy with somatic and body-based modalities, nutritional support, movement, mindset work, and nervous system regulation practices. Every client enters with a comprehensive assessment and works with our team to develop a personalized treatment plan that evolves throughout their stay.

We are what we call a working laboratory for self-leadership. The structure of daily life here the rhythm, the therapeutic environment, the absence of the pressures and triggers of daily professional life is itself healing for most of our clients. Many have not experienced meaningful rest or genuine safety in years. That changes here.

A Residential Property in Old Agoura Hills, California

Healing happens in environment as much as in therapy rooms. Highlands in Bloom is situated on a 1.45-acre residential property in Old Agoura Hills a quiet, naturalistic community nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains, approximately 35 miles northwest of Los Angeles and accessible from the Conejo Valley, Malibu, Thousand Oaks, and Westlake Village, as well as from LAX and Burbank airports for out-of-state clients.

The property is designed to feel like a home warm, private, and restorative. There are no institutional hallways or clinical waiting rooms. Our program size is intentionally small and boutique, which means every client is genuinely known by name, attended to personally, and never lost in a crowd. The natural setting open space, clean air, and proximity to nature supports nervous system regulation in ways that directly complement the clinical work happening inside.

FAQs

How long is the program at Highlands in Bloom?

The length of a residential stay at Highlands in Bloom is individualized. There is no single fixed duration that applies to every client, because no two people arrive with the same history, the same complexity of presentation, or the same treatment goals.

That said, most clients at Highlands in Bloom stay between 30 and 90 days. Shorter stays of 30 days can provide meaningful stabilization and a strong foundation, while longer stays of 60 to 90 days allow for deeper clinical work, more complete nervous system regulation, and more sustainable integration of the skills and insights developed during treatment.

For our clients, most of whom are high-functioning professionals managing the practical demands of careers, families, and responsibilities, program length is always discussed openly during the admissions process. Our clinical team works with each client to recommend a length of stay that reflects both clinical need and real-world circumstances, and your treatment plan is reviewed and adjusted collaboratively throughout your time here. Contact our admissions team for a confidential conversation about what length of stay may be appropriate for your situation.

Highlands in Bloom uses a carefully integrated combination of evidence-based and body-centered therapeutic modalities, selected for their demonstrated effectiveness with the complex, high-functioning clients we serve.

Our clinical programming includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), somatic experiencing, trauma-focused therapies, mindfulness-based practices, and nervous system regulation work. Individual therapy sessions run alongside group clinical programming, allowing each client to engage with both personal depth work and relational healing in a community context.

Because many of our clients present at the intersection of mental health and stress-related physical conditions, including autoimmune disorders, our clinical approach also incorporates nutritional education, movement-based modalities, and breathwork as adjunct supports to the primary psychotherapeutic work. Every treatment plan is individualized at intake and refined throughout the residential stay based on each client’s clinical progress and evolving needs.

Yes. Highlands in Bloom is accredited by The Joint Commission, the nation’s leading independent healthcare accreditation organization, recognized across the United States as the gold standard for quality and safety in healthcare delivery.

Joint Commission accreditation requires facilities to meet rigorous performance standards across clinical care, patient safety, staff qualifications, treatment planning, and operational integrity. Earning and maintaining accreditation is a continuous process and not a one-time credential. It reflects an ongoing commitment to clinical excellence that is independently verified.

In addition to Joint Commission accreditation, Highlands in Bloom holds a California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) license and a California Department of Social Services (CDSS) license (License #195850591), and is in-network with Blue Shield of California and Aetna. Together, these credentials reflect the full spectrum of quality and compliance standards our clients and their families deserve when choosing a residential mental health provider.

The first week at Highlands in Bloom is designed to do one thing above everything else: help you land. After years of operating at high speed and managing, performing, and holding it together for everyone else, most of our clients arrive carrying a level of exhaustion that they have not fully allowed themselves to feel. The first week creates the conditions for that to surface safely.

Practically, the first week includes a comprehensive clinical intake assessment, an initial psychiatric evaluation, and the development of your individualized treatment plan in collaboration with your primary therapist and the broader clinical team. You will begin settling into the daily rhythm of the program, including meals, individual therapy sessions, group programming, movement, and rest, in a way that allows your nervous system to begin orienting to safety rather than survival.

The early phase of treatment is about stabilization, trust-building, and clinical clarity. The deeper work comes and it is fully supported, but it comes once you are resourced enough to engage with it meaningfully. Our team is with you every step of the way from the moment you arrive.

Discharge planning at Highlands in Bloom begins well before your last day. We believe that a residential stay is only as valuable as the foundation it creates for what comes next. For our clients, reentry into the professional and personal environments that contributed to their breakdown requires a thoughtful and well-resourced plan.

Our clinical team works with each client throughout their stay to develop a comprehensive aftercare plan that reflects their specific clinical needs and life circumstances. This includes step-down level of care recommendations such as intensive outpatient programs (IOP) or partial hospitalization, outpatient therapy referrals, psychiatric follow-up coordination where indicated, and practical tools and practices for maintaining the regulatory and relational work done during the residential stay.

We also assist with the transition logistics that matter most to our clients, including coordinating with outpatient providers, ensuring continuity of psychiatric medication management, and identifying support resources that are compatible with a return to full functioning. Our goal is not just a successful discharge. It is a sustainable return to life on your own terms.

Highlands in Bloom operates as a small, intentionally boutique residential program, and our staff-to-client ratio reflects that commitment. Our low client census relative to staff means that every client receives genuinely individualized clinical attention and not the kind of care that is individualized in name but standardized in practice.

In practical terms, this means your primary therapist knows your case with depth and continuity, your clinical team communicates directly and regularly about your progress, and the staff present in daily life, from clinical to culinary to support, are people who actually know who you are and why you are here.

For our clients, many of whom have spent careers being the person who manages everyone else, the experience of being genuinely attended to rather than processed is itself a significant part of recovery. Our program size makes that possible in a way that larger institutional facilities structurally cannot. For specific staffing details, we encourage you to contact our admissions team directly.

Highlands in Bloom serves adults aged 18 and older. Our program is specifically designed for adult men and women, with particular clinical depth and experience working with high-functioning adults in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who are navigating the intersection of professional demands, stress-related illness, and longstanding mental health patterns that have finally reached a breaking point.

We do not serve adolescents or children. If you are seeking residential mental health treatment for a minor, our admissions team can provide referrals to appropriate programs that specialize in adolescent care.

Yes. Highlands in Bloom is a co-ed residential program serving both adult men and women. Our clinical programming, therapeutic modalities, and care philosophy are designed to address the full range of presentations our clients bring regardless of gender.

We recognize that gender plays a meaningful role in how stress, trauma, burnout, and autoimmune conditions manifest and are experienced. Our clinical team is experienced in holding space for those differences within both individual therapy and group programming. If you have specific questions about how our co-ed program is structured or what to expect, our admissions team is available to answer them confidentially.
